I have a feeling...

I have a feeling I'm going to feel like this in about 6 months or so! LOL!!

Where did I get this precious gem of a video you ask? I went to the Arizona State Fair yesterday with a friend, Jacki, and her nephews, Christopher and Ryan. We had a fun time.

This momma and her piglets were in the petting zoo section. There we so many cute baby animals there. I forgot to take a picture of the pot belly pig and her babies, they were so chubby and cute! They were sleeping the entire time we were there though. I felt bad for some of the animals because they seemed stressed out. The most exotic ones were a zebra, a camel, a dromedary, and a small giraffe. The camel was pretty small and he seemed to be the most stressed. The giraffe just stood to the back of his pen and stayed away from all the crazy kids and adults shoving fistfuls of food in their faces. The dromedary was huge! When he ate out of our hand it felt really gross, and I've fed lots of animals!

These little guys were the babies of the bunch, I thought it was funny when people tried to feed them... they are still nursing! They were so stinkin' cute!

Jacki and the boys rode a bunch of ride, while I watched from the side lines. A few of the rides were a little much for Christopher so he sat some of them out with me.

When we took a break for some fair food, and the following conversation ensued:

Shaunna: "Ryan, are you having fun today?"

Ryan: "Yup I'm having a lot of fun, how about you?"

Shaunna: "I'm having fun."

Ryan: "How are you having any fun if you aren't doing anything?"

Shaunna: "I have fun watching you guys ride the ride and I also like watching all the crazy people at the fair too."

Ryan: "I dunno... seems pretty boring!"

Jacki and the boys were brave... they tried some of the fired stuff available at the fair. Jacki had fried cheesecake, Christopher had the fried cookie dough and Ryan had the fried brownie. I didn't partake in that indulgence, but I did get some cotton candy to share!

They had these little picture opportunities at various places throughout the fair!

The only ride I went on was the Ferris Wheel as the sun was setting, it was such a gorgeous view.

Jacki and I on the Ferris Wheel. This was approximately 6:30 and we'd been at the fair since noon! I was getting tired. Oh, and Jacki's head really isn't half the size of mine, I'm just leaning forward some! LOL!

12 week 4 day Ultrasound Today!

Today we had an ultrasound and were able to see our baby, yea!

Here are some of the pictures!

This is the first picture she took. It's a measurement from crown to rump, which was 6.5 cm, which is 2.5 inches for those of us not used to the metric measurements! The head is on the left, the rump is on the right and the little greenish-yellow line follows along it's back.

This was the important part of the ultrasound, where they measure the fluid that accumulates behind the neck. The baby is laying on it's back and the dark white line and the black space right above it is the measurement they take. The tech said everything looks good. This measurement checks for chromosomal disorders like, Down Syndrome, Trisomy 18 and 13. It also checks for the likelihood of spina bifida.

This picture is kinda difficult to interpret, but it is actually the baby with its finger(s) in it's mouth, or by its face. I wish it would have come out more clear!

The tech then transitioned the scan into 3d, and I think this is my favorite picture, because it is so clear. The finger looking thing on the left is the placenta, and the umbilical cord is coming down from that. The baby is snuggled up close and you can kinda see its eyes, ear nose and chin, then its little arms, and its leg. WE HAVE A BABY!

I'm PREGNANT!!!

We had our second OB appointment today where we were able to hear the heartbeat, and I will be 12 weeks along tomorrow.

Our due date is April 23rd, 2009. We have decided to wait to find out the gender of the baby until he/she arrives., much to the chagrin of my side of the family. Who knows maybe he/she will be a prevert and show us its goods first thing at one of the ultra sounds.

We are very excited, although it is taking some time to get used to the idea of being pregnant and eminently becoming parents very soon. I haven't really had "morning sickness" just more of a general yucky feeling. I've only thrown up a handful of times (not literally, hehe), and the worst part of the day is really when I brush my teeth. I've been pretty tired, taking a lot more naps than normal and just not up to doing a whole heck of a lot. The last couple of days have seemed to be better, and I have started feeling like my old spunky self again.

I'm reading lots of books trying to follow along with the progression of my fetus and body. If you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear them! Tom gets interested too, just the other night he had his head on my belly and asked how big the baby was. I was able to tell him that it's about the size of a plum, about 2 inches long, and weighs about 1/3 of an ounce.

But enough of the talk, on to the fun stuff. Here are some pictures and a little video...

August 20th, 2008

This is the first test I took. I wanted to take the test before Tom left for work, so he was in the back yard watering the plants, and I walked out with the test and the instructions and showed it to him. He said, "what does that mean?" I said, all of the sudden with tears in my eyes, "I'm pregnant!" then walked back into the house. He came in a minute later with tears in his eyes, hugged me and told me he loves me. It was very sweet. I think we were both a little overwhelmed at that point. You see, even though we were technically trying to get pregnant, we only had to try once. We are very blessed, and fertile too! LOL!

Second test... about 5 hours later, yup still pregnant.

Third test... about 2 hours after the second test, and drinking lots of water!

I went to the store to pick up a digital, just to make sure. While I was there I picked up a rotisserie chicken for dinner along with a few other groceries and all the way home I could smell the chicken (from the trunk of my car) and it was grossing me out! Tom thought it was silly to take 3 tests, I have more, but he told me to save them.

I called my OB to schedule an appointment the next day and 2 weeks later the doctor confirmed and we told our parents and siblings and a few close friends.

Today was my second appointment and I actually got to meet my doctor who was extremely nice and was referred to me by Krista. My doctor asked how I had been feeling and went over all of my labs values with me and said everything looks great. She also said she'd like to try to find the heartbeat. Woo Hoo, these are the words I was waiting for! It took a few minutes and both the doctor and I heard the heartbeat for about a second and then it went away. She persisted and finally found it under, or very close to, one of my arteries/heartbeat. The doctor said it was about 164 beats per minute which is a very healthy heartbeat. I think Tom was a little overwhelmed, as he'd never heard of a doppler before, let alone knew what it sounded like. He was able to recognize it while he was taking this video. I'm so glad we were able to capture it and share the video with all of you.
