Baby Showers!

We are so blessed to have such great friends and family! We are overwhelmed with all of the stuff we received from both of our showers. Here are a few pictures of all of gifts combined. There are a few things missing from the pictures that wouldn't fit on the table or couch. For example, a car seat, a swing, a bumbo, a breast feeding pillow, a bunch of blankets my parents have been saving for me, a bunch of diapers, and I'm sure a few other things I am blanking on right now. Like I said, we are so fortunate to have such generous family and friends.

A few more boy outfits... guess more people think we're having a boy... hmmm could it be the nick name "Hank" we gave our fetus??
And a bunch of naturally neutral outfits! I'm impressed with the selection of neutrals without being overly yellow and green. There are a lot of tans, which I love!

Now my dad had never been to a baby shower before. The guys were invited, but most showed up later and stayed in the other room while the girls did their thing. He poked his head in a few times and checked in on a few of the games. But he just had to participate in the gift giving!

He took the risk of going to the dog house on this one, but I actually thought it was pretty funny. Yup, my dad gave my adult diapers! He even put them in an empty box of swaddlers, and carefully crossed out some of the wording to indicate that these would be "Shaunna's new baby diapers".

My friends from nursing school, Jacki and Sarah hosted one of the showers at Sarah's apartment one evening. Most of my "girlies" were able to make it and we had a great time catching up, playing games and enjoying each others company!

Jacki arranged to get a cake from Honey Moon Sweets, the bakery I used to work for. This is their "Baby New Wave" cake. Everything you see on this cake is edible, isn't it amazing! It was so yummy, white cake with strawberry bavarian filling and the italian meringue butter cream frosting to top it off! Indulgence at it's finest!
The girls played a game where they spit up into teams and each team had a roll of toilet paper. Their mission: to make the best looking diaper they could! Looking good huh? I had to choose the winner, I chose the Sara on the right. Her diaper had just a few more little details than the other. Too much fun!

Next we each were blind-folded and had to try to fish safety pins out of a bowl of rice. Sounds and looks super easy until it's your turn! Here's Gina attempting to sift the rice to find the safety pins... her plan proved unproductive! I actually won this game retrieving 22 pins in one minute, the next closest person was able to find 17, I think! Yum... doesn't this look like fun?? We were trying to determine which baby food was in each of the diapers. Sarah was the only one brave enough to dig in and taste. I think Angel opted out of this game after gagging a few times! Hilarious! Gina, with her pediatric nurse experience, did a great job describing in detail how each diaper would be charted at her job! Good Times!

My sister, Krista, hosted my family and friends shower. I was lucky enough to have friends and family show up (even from out of state) that I don't get to see very often. It was so much fun.

Duane and Kayla were on my side of town, so I had them pick me up so Tom could drive up later in the afternoon to attend the shower and we'd only have one car to drive home. Here's Kayla in the back seat holding a bunch of balloons on the way back to Krista's house!
Here's the cake! The duck on top is edible, can you believe it? This cake was made by Maria, a friend of mine and Krista's that is super duper crafty! The cake was so yummy!
Krista made the cute duckie cookies, so yummy, and you gotta love this time of year for the Robin's eggs! She had all sorts of yummy food and treats. Games were played and most of them I'd never heard of before. So much fun. I think the game that was the biggest hit was the last one. The only suckers... er participants... were Jacki and Kayla.

In this game, they were blind-folded and had to feed each other applesauce. The first player to finish their bottle of applesauce won. It was hilarious!This is before... they are getting ready to start the game. Notice the black trash bags... those sure did come in handy. Jacki and Kayla were such good sports with this game!

Oh, and I figured some of you might want to see the pregnant me... Not so hot, but I guess it's proof, eh? Please don't mind the lack of makeup! Hopefully I'll get a few better ones before this baby pops out!

Quick Update

Let's see how quick I really can be? I have a tendency to be long winded, forgive me! LOL!

I just got back from my 34 week doctor's appointment/checkup (technically I'm 34 weeks and 3 days), and surprise, surprise, I'm still measuring big. At the 30 week ultrasound I measured about 2 and a half weeks ahead. Guess how much ahead I was measuring today? 5 weeks ahead... yup that's right! I'm measuring as if I was 39.5 weeks along! Eeek!!! Hang in there baby, we don't want you huge or to come too early. I still have some work training I need to get through before you can come too! Give me at least 4 more weeks please!

Speaking of work, tonight is my first night shift as an RN. I'm on my way to take a nap, but wanted to post an update first. My schedule is all sorts of wonky the next few weeks, but I think it will all be okay. I'm trying to stay positive. I'm just going to try to take it as easy as I can when I get busy. I just hope the baby cooperates and doesn't get too upset with me in the mean time!

We had my family baby shower this past weekend (my nursing school girlies threw one for me about 2 weeks ago). We have been overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness of all of our friends and family members. I'll post some pictures a little later on this week from both showers and all the loot we were sent home with! Baby's room is not ready yet so I have it all set up in our living room, so I could go through it and figure out what we might need to get before the baby comes.

Oh and we finally bought some furniture for our living room. We figured it'd be nice to have a comfy place to sit when the baby arrives.

Like I said, I'll upload my pictures and maybe even a video later in the week to show you all of the stuff!

I need to learn something...

So I need to learn how to keep my mouth shut!

Let me explain...

This Friday I will be 34 weeks pregnant with our cute little bundle of joy... holy cow time is flying by. Well, I had assumed a few things about my training schedule at work, but was curious what the managers thought. Yesterday, while working one of my managers was talking to a few people on our "pod" (the shape of the hospital is 4 round nursing units on each floor, called pods). I decided that I should ask her about what her plans were for my schedule with me having the baby soon, due in about 6 weeks. Well after a phone call here and there, it was decided that I better get my butt to the night shift to orient to nights as soon as possible. If not my orientation may be considered "extended", which doesn't look good for the budget. So not only do I have to continue for the next 3 weeks with daytime classes on at least 2 days a week, I have to start working the night shift a few nights a week as well. While attempting to not work two 12 hour shifts in a row, per doctors orders. This will be fun. (Please tell me you can read the sarcasm dripping from that sentence!)

So basically I'll be working every other day or two on the night shift, and trying to work around daytime training classes, daytime doctors appointments and evening childbirth classes. I have a feeling the next 3 or so weeks are going to be a blur. Oh, and I forgot to mention, Tom is still working hard on getting the baby's room finished/ready before he or she arrives. So this schedule may put a little bit of a damper on his schedule for progress too, not to mention time cut short for shopping for baby stuff and just another important piece of furniture... a couch!

To spin it in a more positive light, I guess this will make us more grateful for when the baby comes and we can spend 6 weeks together without having to worry too much about anything else but us, hopefully!

I'm trying to focus on the good things coming up and not worry too much about how much this transition will affect our daily lives. Some things I'm looking forward to?

Baby Shower! Krista is throwing us a baby shower this Saturday. I can't wait to see everyone and enjoy their company and the yummy food. Krista always throws such parties.

Childbirth classes! I've been through a childbirth class before, for school, but I can't wait to attend one with Tom to see what his reaction to it all will be. He's going to be such a great dad, I'm just worried about his reaction to the actual labor process, but I'm sure he'll do just fine.

More spring time weather! It's beautiful in Arizona right now! I want to plant flowers and get my hands dirty, we'll see if I get the time to be motivated to really do it!

Another ultrasound of our baby. My doctor would like me to have another ultrasound in about 4 weeks just to check on the size of the baby again. She likes to have a better idea of what to expect and what options to offer once we get a little closer to d-day! Hopefully I'll still be pregnant at that point and we'll still be able to go au natural if I can do it!

Last but definitely not least, OUR BABY! The baby has been moving around so much lately that just sitting there Tom, or anyone nearby, can see the baby actually moving at the top of my belly. Sometimes it's quite the show! I'm pretty sure the baby is still head down, so the movement we see is the butt wiggling around and then those cute little feet that I can't wait to see and hold! I'm so excited to have our baby and love on that little one from the outside.
